A signed Michael Jordan shirt from the 1998 NBA Finals has sold, breaking the record for basketball memorabilia sales.

According to the sports economics website Sportseconomics.ir, citing Tasnim, Michael Jordan’s red jersey—worn during the second NBA Finals game in 1998—was sold in a private transaction for $14 million. This marks the highest price ever recorded for a basketball memorabilia item.

Hunt Auctions announced that Miami real estate investor Ron Fireman was the buyer of the signed jersey. On June 5, 1998, Jordan scored 37 points in that same jersey against the Utah Jazz, helping the Chicago Bulls secure a victory. The Bulls ultimately won the series 4-2, giving Jordan his sixth and final NBA championship during his professional career.

This is the third Jordan jersey from the 1998 Finals to sell for over $10 million. His white jersey from the third game of those Finals sold for $12.26 million in September 2026. Additionally, Jordan’s red jersey from the first game of the 2022 Finals also fetched over $10 million.

David Hunt, president of Hunt Auctions, commented on the sale: “Michael Jordan’s significance in the sports memorabilia market has long been established, but now these items have reached the level of valuable assets often compared to iconic works of art.”

Despite setting a new record in the basketball memorabilia market, the jersey ranks as the second most expensive sports jersey ever sold. The top record still belongs to Babe Ruth’s baseball jersey, which he wore during the third game of the 1932 World Series and sold for $24.12 million in 2024.
