The new owners of the Lakers basketball team predict that the franchise’s value will reach $30 billion by 2037.

The new ownership group of the Los Angeles Lakers, led by Joshua Kushner and Bob Iger, has estimated the team’s value at $30 billion by the end of 2037, provided their financial plans are realized, according to a report by a sports economics platform citing Tasnim.

The Wall Street Journal reports that this figure was presented in a document prepared by Kushner’s Trava Capital for potential investors. Kushner and Iger acquired control of the Lakers from Mark Walter last month for $12.5 billion, a deal that broke the record for the most expensive sale of a professional sports team.

The Clippers have surrendered, and a hefty NBA fine will be paid.

Under the plan, the Lakers’ revenue, projected at $681 million in 2026, could reach at least $1.6 billion by 2037. This estimate largely depends on the increase in the team’s television and streaming rights value, with the new owners expecting these revenues to double during this period. In a more optimistic scenario, the Lakers’ value has even been estimated at $62 billion.

To boost revenue, the plan presented to investors suggests that approximately 6,000 season tickets held by intermediaries should be returned to the club and converted into single-game tickets. This could increase the average ticket price from $217 to $361.

The new ownership group also anticipates a $40 to $75 million increase in sponsorship revenue and at least $20 million in operational cost savings.

Another part of the plan states that the value of NBA broadcasting rights, currently $77 billion in the 11-year existing contract, could double after the contract ends.

Meanwhile, the ownership situation of the Lakers remains unresolved. The Buss family, who owned the team since 1979, still holds 17.8% of the Lakers’ shares. Jeanie Buss, the current team president, has opposed the sale of this share and has taken the matter to court, while her other siblings wish to sell their shares to Kushner and Iger.

End of message.
