The 2025/26 European football season saw a record-breaking 242 million spectators attend club and international matches.

European football set a new record for spectator attendance in the 2025/26 season, according to the specialized sports economics platform. A new report by UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) reveals that at least 242 million people attended men's club and national football matches in Europe live.

UEFA's report shows that men's top-tier domestic leagues attracted 116 million spectators, a 1.4% increase from the previous record. Additionally, 27 European top leagues saw a rise in attendance, with 17 leagues reaching their highest attendance levels in at least a decade.

At lower levels, 82 million people attended matches live. Domestic cup competitions drew 13 million spectators, while UEFA club matches attracted 20 million fans to stadiums.

These figures highlight the enduring commercial value of the live stadium experience for clubs, even as online streaming and digital media capture a growing share of the sports audience.

UEFA also reported that 19 clubs in the top domestic leagues had more than one million home spectators in total during the season.

Increased spectator attendance can boost clubs' economic value through direct ticket sales, sponsorship opportunities, merchandise sales, hospitality services, fan engagement, and commercial stadium use.
