Barcelona has signed an Iranian-American designer.
The link between luxury fashion and the football economy / Luxury fashion: an opportunity to develop the football economy
American brand AMIRI has unveiled Barcelona’s new official kit for the 2026–2027 season, marking the second season of their partnership with the club.
According to the specialized sports economics platform, the luxury brand AMIRI, founded by Iranian-American designer Mike Amiri, has recently launched its second season of collaboration with FC Barcelona, unveiling a new collection of official club attire. Introduced on October 19, 2026, the collection merges luxury tailoring with Barcelona’s iconic colors and elements of Catalan culture, offering a fresh take on the club’s sporting identity.
First announced in November 2025, this partnership has established AMIRI as FC Barcelona’s official ceremonial apparel supplier. The initial five-year contract runs until the end of the 2029–2030 season. Key aspects of the agreement include designing custom clothing for the men’s and women’s first teams, board members, and club executives, with the attire intended for European tours and final matches.
From football jerseys to luxury tailoring
Mike Amiri, who founded his brand in Los Angeles in 2014, is renowned in the luxury fashion industry for blending contemporary American culture, street style, and meticulous tailoring. The collaboration with Barcelona has positioned the brand alongside one of the world’s most celebrated football clubs, bridging the gap between fashion and sports enthusiasts.
The new collection features a gray wool suit with multiple stripes as the primary design for players’ attire, echoing Barcelona’s classic striped jerseys. The ensemble includes a double-breasted jacket with two buttons and a pointed collar, slightly flared trousers, a striped Oxford shirt, and a golden silk tie.
A standout piece is a golden lamb leather jacket, adorned with Barcelona’s emblem on both the chest and back. The emblem’s details not only represent the club but also symbolize Barcelona’s history and Catalan identity, incorporating elements such as the cross of Saint George, the Catalan flag, and an old-style football.
The club executives’ attire is designed with a more formal aesthetic, featuring a steel gray suit, a white shirt, a golden tie matching the players’ style, and a gray wool coat. Accessories include a travel bag, a personal bag, and a leather belt embossed with the AMIRI logo.
Mike Amiri: Football and fashion share a quest for excellence
In a statement published by Haute Living on October 19, 2026, Mike Amiri, founder and creative director of AMIRI, reflected on the collaboration: “Fashion and football are deeply connected through creativity, individuality, and artistic expression. Both celebrate the freedom to express identity through movement, style, and instinct, rooted in professional skill, precision, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
What inspires me most about FC Barcelona is its balance between historical heritage and modernity—a deep respect for tradition alongside a constant drive to innovate and redefine possibilities. These values resonate deeply with AMIRI’s philosophy.”
These remarks also shed light on the design philosophy behind the new collection: preserving a club’s historical symbols while presenting a contemporary image. In this view, formal attire is not merely functional for travel or ceremonies but serves as a means of representing the club’s identity in the public sphere.
Barcelona: Refinement is integral to the club’s identity
Manel del Rio, CEO of FC Barcelona, emphasized the shared values of both brands when the initial partnership was announced in November 2025. He stated, “The collaboration with AMIRI reflects a connection between two entities that share common goals: excellence, creativity, and attention to detail.
At FC Barcelona, we believe that refinement is part of how we present the club, both on and off the field. AMIRI offers a contemporary perspective on craftsmanship and style that aligns perfectly with our identity and the values that define this institution. Together, we present a global image of innovation and refinement—values we deeply identify with.”
This approach demonstrates Barcelona’s commitment to developing a cohesive club image that extends beyond on-field performance, encompassing the presence of players, executives, and the club emblem in travel, ceremonies, and media content.
Luxury fashion: An opportunity to grow the football economy
From a sports economics perspective, the AMIRI-Barcelona partnership transcends traditional sports advertising. In such agreements, clubs grant commercial partners access to assets like global reputation, visual identity, audience reach, and players’ media influence. In return, fashion brands leverage their association with a prestigious club to enhance their own standing and reach new audiences.
